Contemporary Art

The Last Time Emmett Modeled Nude
                                                                                               by Sally Mann

The theme is place. It seems like that the nude boy is the dense tropical forests of the Amazon basin. Reflection in the river is really gorgeous. Indeed, I am under the false impression that this boy seems to control water.

The Magic of Regret
                                                            by Laurie Simmons

This theme is story. I like this idea which is one real person and one doll as expressing love. When I saw first time, I didn't recognize that a man is doll.  Although man is doll, they  seem like to enjoy their dating.

I'm Yours
                                                by Arturo Herrera

This theme is play. This shows how two people make wall painting as entertainment. I just evoke when I went Chicago Artists Month festival. I went an artist's gallery, there was a wall paining, but it did not complete. Artists said that any guests can draw on my wall instead of me. Actually, although that wall painting had many different styles, it was very awesome.

A Journey That wasn
                                                        by Pierre Huyghe

This theme is romance. Usually, winter in the Arctic is harsh, but this picture doesn't seems like that. Light bulb seem like a small sun and igloos is been reflecting by light bulb, so igloos is so shiny. It makes warm and very cute penguins gather to igools. That is why this picture is lovely.

Winter in the Arctic is harsh.

Cindy Sherman Portrait

They are a young couple. They left on a trip overseas to Havana after a long time. However, While they were at the party, her husband cheated on her with somebody who was at the party. Unfortunately, he was caught in the act of adultery by his wife. After finishing party, they came back their room, then they fought. Finally, he was expelled from room, and she started to drink Martini. She was intoxicated and acted very aggressive. Her husband was just in silence withe his heads bowed.

AIC

I have been The Art Institute Chicago more than 5 times, but this time is something different to me because I may be taking this class. Before I took this class, I just passed by painting. However, I just tried to understand why this artist drew like this way. I like that we went past modern European section because I really like impressionism. Through this time, I could be interested in Salvador Dali, so I was standing his some paintings for a while. His painting is something different other artists such as color tone, and weird object. By the way, it was great time to me, and I realized that my viewing for artwork is improving step by step through this class.

Reflection of Art loop open

Unwinding Cone Shell by Barbara Blacharczyk

I went to HardRock Cafe with George and Carlos. There were 14 pieces of artwork, but this is my favorite one among them. The artist used drawing techniques and rare materials. Although I do not know what this artist want to show us exactly, I can feel something like beyond expressions.  He shows us how he is creative, so that is why I choose him.

Art film - Frida

As you look at the title, this movie is about Frida Kahlo. When Frida was 18 years old, she had a serious car accident, so she was injured such as broken ribs, perlvis, and legs. She had to saty in her bed, and she could not do anything. Therefore, she began painting. Since then, she had a run of ill luck such as divorce, accident again. In my opinion, since she undergo hardships, and overcome an ordeal, we can feel her feelings in her painting. Many painting was made by her personal experience. For example, when she had heard that she could not get baby, she drew. Also, when she had heard that her back spine was broking by accident, she drew her portrait to focus on her back spine. As painting, she took some time for self-examination. While I was watching this movie, I just occurred to somebody’s quote that “If pain did not exist, there might not have been art.” Her all of pain based on her painting. This is the most impressed her speech that “I drank to drown my pain, but the damned pain learned how to swim, and now I am overwhelmed by this decent and good behavior.” Her painting style was very unique, so if I watch her painting without her name, I could recognize that this painting is made from Frida. Like this unique really need to artist.

MCA

It was my third time to visit Museum of Contemporary art, but I have never seen Alexander Calder's artwork. Therefore, I was excited while I was there. Of course, I focused on his artwork. He is very interesting artist because he use many different and creative materials. Among them, my favorite was his reusing one. Those materials are supposed to be trash, but by his hand, those things are made as a beautiful things. I think that he was very progressive person to consider his time period, so that is why many artists are influenced by Alexander Calder. A bad thing was that I may not take his artwork picture.

Chicago Artists Month

I didn't know that Gitte posted on blackboard about this project. One of my friend who is working architecture company suggested to go there, so I went there with 10 friends.  It was really good because I could see many different artists work.  Wine and food were free haha. I could spend time just two and half hour because it was closed at 10, but we were til 10:30, then we hang out.

I wanted to express my activity

Public Art

It was my second public art trip, but audio tour was my first time. Actually, when I did first public art trip, I had no idea what it was going on even second time before listening audio tour. As I listened audio, I could get many information, so it is really good for tourists.

I did this project with Akira and George on Saturday, but weather was bad because of raining.  Public art has own advantage. For example, we can get close to watch, and we can touch, so it feel like more comfortable to me. I think that art public is the most accessible form among art.

One of my interesting one is Jay Pritzker Pavilion by Frank Gehry.  When I took a picture infront of Jay Pritzker Pavilion, one of my friend who is studying architecture said that this artist is really famous because of his individuality such as modernism. He also made Walt Disney Concert Hall as well. Both looks like coming from future. It looks like very fresh to me.

By the way, it was really good outside activity.  While I was looking around, I though about class what I learned like insider artist because I think that something teacher wants us from this trip. Probably, it worked at least to me. Before I took this class, when I watched some arts, I did not have any thinking, but this time was different.

#7 HOB

God of blues BB.King & Eric Clapton

Before I came to House of Blues, I had been there about 6 times to watch some concerts, so I just expected that it would be boring. However, my expectation was totally wrong.
Although I had been many times, I did not recognize that there were lots of paintings. Especially, VIP room was soooo awesome. I like that atmosphere. Maybe HOB is my dream job because it combines music and art.
By the way, it is my best field trip ever never!!!

#5

Before I took the boat, I worried about weather. However, weather was awesome at least for me. It was second time. Actually, I was not interested in this trip last time, but this time was different. I realize this time why Chicago is called not only wind city, but also city of architecture.  There are many different type of buildings. Although I could not get some information from tour guide because he was speaking sooooo fast, it was good experience to me.

Heaven is Worth It All (5004), 1985
Enamel on wood
33 x 27 inches
Courtesy of Dan, Kristi & Keon Cleary

When I entered the gallery, this picture possess a magical power of charming me.
It looks so occult because the castle has many mansions, and mansions have lots of rooms.
Indeed, as you can see on bottom, there are some characters.
Probably, this picture relates religion, especially Christian.
Although I cannot understand exactly, I like this picture because this one has something special.
If I had more knowledge about art, I would have been like more.

#3

This picture was taken by me when I went to Paris last summer.
Everyone knows this name that is called Eiffel Tower.
I think that night Eiffel Tower is more beautiful than daytime one.
My friend and her friends brought me a park which is in front of this tower to celebrate for first night in Paris.
When I arrived the park, I was soooo impressed about this beautiful architecture.
Finally, I was under the influence of liquor, so I was not able to take a picture at night.
By the way, this is one of the beautiful architecture in my life.

                                               Edvard Munch, Anxious

When I went art institute of Chicago museum, Munch's paint was exhibited.  Generally,
when people think about Munch, coming across people's mind is Scream which is one of famous his painting.  However, I was attracted Anxious more than Scream because I was able to feel his anxious through painting and colors were so occult to me.  Therefore, I was standing for a long time. I had never felt that I was charmed with any painting.  That's why this one is my favorite.

When I went  a music concert, I took this picture.
I like it.
